Mexican Sunprinted Hand Embroidered Cotton Mini Huipile/Dress - Round Collar
Beautiful handmade 100% natural cotton mini dresses/huipiles by Liz Rojas. Sun-printed (Cyanotype), hand sewn, and dyed with tints found in nature, then hand embroidered with birds, butterflies, and bees. Each dress is a one-of-a-kind wearable folk art masterpiece that takes weeks to make (see below for more information about the process).
The distinct dye pattern may include any of the following natural colorants: Pomegranate (green, taupe); Indigo (blue); Black Zapote (Green, Brown); Palo De Aguila (Alder Tree); Cempasuchil (Marigold - Yellow, Orange); Cochinilla (pinks, purples). Additionally, each piece features distinct sun prints from leaves, seeds, sticks, and other wonders found in nature.
FITTING: Huipiles are meant to fit baggy. However, you can create a more fitted look by adding a belt. Looks great with leggings, jeans, or bare legs.
SIZING Details: Note that the chest measurements are all the way around and the length is from collar to hem. SM = 38” Chest x 29” Long MED = 40” chest x 29.5” Long LG = 43” Chest x 30” Long

Process: The cotton is spun by hand then woven into cloth on a pedal loom. The cotton cloth, is then dyed with natural colorants like cochineal and indigo and then sun printed with leaves and seeds. Liz then makes the dress patterns and sews them into these traditional-style Mexican huipiles. She finishes them with hand stitching and embroidery.
