Erick De Silva
Erick studied fine art at the UABJO School of Plastic and Visual Arts in Oaxaca, Mexico where he has exhibited his work. Inspired by Japanese artistry he traveled to Japan, and often uses Japanese watercolors in his paintings.
Through visual appropriation he deconstructs and reinterprets elements such as fantasy and Mexican folklore, especially life and death connections with different natural forms such as animals and botanicals. His focus on magical realism and folkloric themes allows him to work in different artistic media including traditional painting, digital and traditional illustration, and his love for watercolor painting.
Besides creating fine art, Erick has operated the Diablo Azul Tatttoo Studio with his partner Rosa Del Alba since 2014. Together they specialize in tattoos that mix artistic styles such as Asian anime and Mexican folklore. Erick says, “I think that a tattooed person is an expanded drawing that becomes an open book, revealing through their skin a small part of who they are or their personal interests.”
